The natural motion of your foot while running is called the Gait Cycle. The Gait Cycle is broken down in to phases: heel strikes (phase 1), rolls to midfoot (phase 2), then to toe-off (phase 3).....



The right shoe for you will depend on a number of different factors. There is no single ‘best shoe' as everyone has different needs. Your running gait, biomechanics, your weight, the surfaces you run on and the shape of your feet will all determine what shoe is right for you.....



At the bare minimum, you should invest in one pair of good general running shoes. Running shoes the one item you absolutely must have. If you've ever purchased the wrong pair of running shoes, you'll know what we mean. Don't scrimp when it comes to buying a running shoe. Running is a relatively cheap sport and in order to participate, you don't need a lot of expensive equipment. As running apparel also lasts quite a long time, a few smart buys early on should see you through a fair few seasons of happy and comfortable running.

Cotton is the enemy of all runners. It adsorbs and retains moisture making it heavy. It will stick to you like glue inhibiting movement. If you're still wearing cotton Tees, banish them to the duster cupboard!......



Running shoes need very little, if any breaking in. They are made of synthetic materials that are not designed to stretch, so they fit ‘right out of the box'.

When buying running shoes you need to be aware of what's happening to your feet. The impact at landing is 3.5 times your body weight. As your feet land approximately 500 times per mile, they will tend to spread out in the shoe. Therefore, your running shoes need more room in them than ordinary shoes.....



This is a great way to create a secure, tight fit. Just put each lace end back into the same hole it just exited, leaving a small loop on the top side of the shoe; now thread each loose end through the loop on the opposite side; then pull to create a supertight closure.....



Your body is great at telling you that you need a new pair of shoe – you get injured!! Consistency is the key to better running and injury is every runner's worst fear. We can reduce the risk of getting injured by paying close attention to our shoes. Help prevent those aching joints by rotating between two pairs of running shoes. Here's how it works.....



If you are serious about running and racing quickly up to ½ marathon, then look at buying a racing shoe. Racing shoes are built for speed. They are super lightweight, and in order to be so, they've had a lot stripped out of them. They are not as durable and will not offer you the levels of cushioning that you training shoes will. That said, they are very light and will certainly help you reduce those PB's.....
